Pakistan

     There are 1.6 billion Muslims or followers of Islam in the world today and this is gradually increasing by 2.9% each year (Robinson).  Islam is a monotheistic religion and can be broken into two sects. The sects are called Sunnis and Shiite. After the death of the prophet Muhammad, Sunnis consider his companion Abu Bakir to be their leader, while the Shiite considers his son-in-law to be the leader (Phillips). Muslims also have two major holidays that are Ramadan which is one of the five pillars of Islam, and Eid al Adha (Huda). The first Muslims actually entered America when African slavery started. It is thought that 10 – 15 percent was Muslim (PBS). Islam is not the majority religion in the United States; however it dominates other parts of the world, especially Pakistan.
