Current Statistics

In some ways, Islam has also impacted the education system of Guinea. In 2010 their literacy rate was 93.94% (indexmundi.com). Their infant mortality rate was 123.6 per 1,000 live births as of 2011 (indexmundi.com). Guinea has a very unique education system. They don’t begin formal education until they are between the ages of 14 and 16. Only about 70% of children attend primary school, and even less attends secondary school. There are two institutions of higher learning located in Malabo and Bata, but many children can’t afford to attend these institutions (Eleanor Stanford).  Guinea imports machines, metals, textiles, and petroleum products from China, Belgium, and France. They export gold, diamonds, coffee and fish to the US, Spain, Ireland, and Ukraine (economywatch.com). Although it is just their religion, Islam has impacted the way children learn today in Guinea. Without Islam Guinea would not be the same Guinea we know today, as the religion impacts the people, the culture, the architecture, and much more. Islam has left a long lasting impact on the world around us, including Guinea.
