People of Guinea

There are about 1.6 billion Muslims in the world today (Drew Desilver). Islam is split into two main sections- Shia and Sunni. Shia’s believe that their leaders must be descendants of the prophet, Muhammad. However, Sunnis believe that their leader should be elected by the people (Abhinav Tiwari). The two major religions of Islam are Ramadan and celebrating the Hajj (ReligionFacts). The first wave of Muslims came to America in the 17th century on slave ships that were traveling to the Virginia coast (Abdus Sattar Ghazali). While Islam might not be the majority religion in the United States, it influences other parts of the world, especially Guinea.
