Islam and Culture

 

Qatar is quite diverse religion wise with Islam only being 77.5% of the country. Islam reached Qatar when Muhammad sent his troops to Qatar to try convince the Arab inhabitants to convert to the Islamic religion. Qatar gained its independence in 1916 when a deal was signed under which Britain controls Qatar's external affairs in return for guaranteeing its protection. Qatar has always and still currently is using an emirate type of government similar to a monarchy or a sultanate.  Qatar was involved in the First Independent Wars, Second Independent Wars, The Gulf Wars, Libyan Civil War, and the Intervention against ISIL. The Qatari army has had little part in these wars as the United States has heavily aided them throughout most of the wars.
